This is a Desert Eagle-shaped toy pistol from the Shoot Game box, which calls it an acoustic-optic gun: a gun made for light and sound rather than for firing anything. The slide is see-through amber plastic printed PRECISION SHOOTING, with red, green and blue lights inside that flash as the trigger is pulled. The frame and hammer are shiny silver, the grip panels and rail are teal, and the trigger is gold.

Its extra trick is mist. A small amount of water poured into the gun is turned into a light spray that puffs out of the muzzle while the lights flash, so it looks as if the pistol is smoking after every shot. The box shows it in two steps, add water and light spray.

The icons along the bottom of the box list light, sound, electric and gear, so every pull brings flashing colours, a shooting sound and moving parts behind the clear slide. It is battery powered and fires no pellets, darts or water jets, which makes it a toy gun for indoor play as much as the garden.

It measures about 22 cm long and 12 cm high, a pistol that fits a child's hand, and it comes in a slim 25 by 15 cm box that is easy to gift-wrap for a birthday.

The box carries no age mark. Because it fires nothing, we suggest it from three years, with a grown-up handling the water for the mist. Our stock is the teal and silver version shown in the photos; the box artwork pictures the same pistol in red.
