This is Gohan, Goku's eldest son, as he looks in his Ultimate form from the Majin Buu saga of Dragon Ball Z: spiky black hair with a single lock falling over the forehead, a stern narrow-eyed stare, and the orange gi with a navy undershirt. At 36 cm (14 inches) from boot to hair tip, he is a centrepiece figure rather than a desk mini.

Most anime action figures on Pakistani marketplaces stand about 15 to 25 cm tall. This one is close to double that, and the extra height shows in the sculpt: deep folds in the baggy trousers, defined forearms and shoulders, clenched fists, and gold ties wrapped around each navy boot.

The outfit is the one fans recognise from the Buu saga. Like his father's gi it is orange over navy, but it carries no kanji on the chest or the back. The navy sash is knotted at the waist, the wristbands are ribbed, and the boots have a thin red stripe up the side.

Out of the box he stands feet apart with his arms down and fists closed. His arms and legs move, so you can raise his fists into a guard or spread his feet into a wide fighting stance, then set him back to standing for the shelf. At this size any pose reads from across a room, which suits a bookshelf, a gaming desk or the top of a cupboard, and collectors who post their shelves.

Fans who already own a Goku figure often want his son beside him, and this Ultimate form is the one Gohan takes into his fight with Super Buu. As a gift for a Dragon Ball Z fan, older child or adult, it arrives in a window box printed with Dragon Ball Z artwork, so there is nothing to wrap.
