This Hot Wheels 10 car set puts ten Hot Wheels die-cast cars in one window box, which is the quickest way to hand a car-mad child a whole garage at once. Every car sits in its own clear tray slot, with one parked behind a display window in the corner.

The mix of cars changes from box to box, so the ten your child unpacks may not be the ten in our photos. The box we photographed holds four blue cars, among them a coupe marked RACER, two red sports cars, two purple racers, a gold car with a green wing and a chunky yellow SUV, which is a fair picture of the variety: low racers with rear wings, sports cars and something bigger.

Each car is about 7.6 cm long, 3.4 cm wide and 2.3 cm tall, the pocket size of collectable toy cars that fits a small fist and a crowded toy box. The box itself measures 27.8 by 19 by 4 cm, flat enough to wrap without fuss.

Die-cast means the bodies are cast in metal rather than moulded in plastic, so each car has real weight in the hand. Silver multi-spoke wheels roll on every one, ready for push-along races down the corridor, launches off a ramp made from a school book, or a long parking line on the bedroom floor.

Because every box is a different assortment, a second set rarely doubles up on the first, which is how many children's collections grow. Ten cars at once also means there is always one to lend to a friend.

Ten cars in one box makes a ready-made present for a birthday or Eid, and it shares well between siblings and cousins. It is marked 3+ on the front of the box.
