This is a drone disguised as a sword. Laid flat on a table it reads as a fantasy blade — a long tapered silver edge, a wrapped black grip and a copper pommel — and the four rotors are tucked inside copper rings in the crossguard where you would expect decoration. Nobody works out what it is until it lifts off the floor, which is most of the appeal.

Because the props sit inside moulded rings rather than on exposed arms, the sword takes knocks that would snap a normal quadcopter. The rings do the work of prop guards without looking like prop guards, and the flat blade shape means it slides into a cupboard or under a bed instead of needing a box the size of a briefcase.

Air-pressure altitude hold is what makes it flyable indoors. The aircraft reads barometric pressure and holds its own height, so the pilot only has to steer — no constant throttle correction, no sinking into the carpet halfway across the room. One-click take-off lifts it to a hover on a single button and one-click landing brings it back down without a bounce.

For anyone who has flown enough to be bored of hovering, a 360-degree roll button flips it end over end and recovers automatically. One-click calibration resets the sensors on a level floor when the drift starts to annoy you, which on any small drone is the difference between a good session and a frustrating one.

The kit is complete rather than minimal: a two-stick gamepad, a lithium battery, a USB charging lead, a small screwdriver and a pair of spare blades all pack in together.
