A round chick face sits on the front of this blue kids scooty, right between two wide front wheels, with a single smaller wheel at the back. As the scooty rolls, those front wheels flash red, green and blue, and a line of small lights glows along the side of the deck. The wheel lights need no batteries at all: they are powered by the wheels turning, so they never run flat.

The scooty also plays music. The music unit runs on small cells that are not included in the box, so pick some up with the order if your child will want the tunes from the first ride; the flashing wheels work either way.

It is sized for small riders. In our size chart the handlebar stands 69 cm off the floor, and the stem adjusts through several heights as your child grows. The deck is 32 cm long and 13 cm wide, printed with cartoon animals, and the whole scooty measures 58 cm from front to back. That fits children of roughly two to six years; an older child who has outgrown that handle height will be happier on one of our taller models.

Two wheels at the front and one behind keep the scooty standing on its own. A beginner can put one foot on the deck and push with the other without the whole thing tipping, and a mudguard over the back wheel keeps shoes off the tyre.

When the ride is over, one button releases the stem and the scooty folds down to about 24 cm high. That is low enough for a car boot on the way to the park, or the space under a bed in a small flat.
