Eight umbrellas, each in a colour with that colour's name printed across the canopy: PURPLE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, ORANGE, PINK, BLACK and RED. Above them come four blue clouds and a long run of raindrops — and the raindrops are in the same eight colours as the umbrellas, which is the detail that turns this from a colour chart into a matching game.

That matching is the whole reason to choose this over a plain colour set. Put the umbrellas along the bottom of a wall and the rain above them, and a class can be asked to say which coloured drops belong under which umbrella. Every drop has an owner, every umbrella has its rain, and a three-year-old can do the whole exercise by colour alone before they can read a single name.

It is also the right display for the season it is bought in. Pakistani schools put this up in July when the monsoon starts and the children arrive wet, and a wall of umbrellas and rain says something a generic colour chart does not. Several schools take it down in October and keep it for the following year.

The lettering switches between white and black depending on the canopy — white on the purple, green, blue, orange, black and red, black on the yellow and pink. That is a deliberate contrast choice and it is why every name stays readable from across a room rather than disappearing into its own background.

One printing slip worth mentioning: the red banner reads CLOLOUR UMBRELLAS, with an extra L. The colour names printed on the umbrellas themselves are all spelled correctly, which is where a child's eye actually goes.

Every element is a separate cut-out, including each drop, so the rain can be spread thin across a wide wall or grouped into a downpour. Nothing has an adhesive backing and no size is printed on any piece or on the banner, so we claim neither.
