Cool Tools is a kids workbench that lives inside its own suitcase. Closed, it is a grey ribbed case with a blue carry handle, red corner clips and a Cool Tools Real Action Play Set badge. Set up, it becomes a standing bench about 66 cm tall, 48 cm wide and 24 cm deep, with a lime-green top shelf carrying the Cool Tools sign.

The bench is built in levels. A toy saw and a wrench hang from the top, a black shelf holds two red-handled screwdrivers upright, and the main work surface carries a silver bench vice, a blue toy circular saw with a toothed disc, a pegged panel of meshing grey, green and red gears, and brown strips punched with holes for bolting together.

Two blue trays fold out at the sides, one holding an angle ruler and the other a row of bolts, so the tools a child needs stay within reach. Underneath, the front is printed with cupboard doors, and a red Top Tools bin at the bottom holds a toy caliper with a dial gauge.

At 66 cm the work surface sits around waist height for a three- to five-year-old, which is why children stand at it and work instead of tipping pieces onto the floor. It suits a child who already copies every repair at home and wants a proper station of their own.

The suitcase is the part parents end up liking most. When play is over the bench packs back into the case, the clips close, and a whole workshop goes on top of a cupboard or into the boot of the car for a visit to the grandparents.

The box is marked Kids 3+. The bolts, washers and gears are small pieces, so younger siblings should not be left alone with them.
