Description
Children who watch their mother cook want a kitchen of their own, and this one is sized for a table rather than a whole corner of the room. The box calls it Cooks' Kitchen and puts it simply: I am the best assistant of mother. Inside are 33 pieces, enough to cook, wash up and serve a full pretend meal.
The kitchen stands about 28 cm tall, 29.5 cm wide and 14 cm deep. A back panel carries a clock dial, a small basket and a rail where four cooking utensils hang on hooks. Below it, the white worktop has two blue hob rings with knobs, a pot and a frying pan with see-through lids, a tray of vegetables on the left and a sink tray with a blue tap on the right. The front of the base is printed as an oven with a roast chicken behind the glass.
Nothing on it is electric. The tap is pretend and runs no water, so there are no batteries to buy and no puddles on the carpet; the splash in some of our pictures only shows the washing game. Every piece is moulded plastic and wipes clean with a damp cloth.
The play is the routine children already copy at home: rinse the carrot at the sink, set the pot on one ring and the pan on the other, stir, hang the utensil back on its hook and serve. The small Kitchen Set menu card on the side gives a second child something to order from, and one cook becomes a restaurant with a customer.
The box is marked 3+ and carries a small parts warning, so keep the pretend food away from babies and younger brothers or sisters. Three to six year olds get the most from it, on their own or with a parent playing the hungry guest.
