The tube is printed all round with the Coloroid artwork, so children recognise their own at a shared table. It stands upright on a desk and works as a pencil pot during homework, which saves tipping the whole set out and losing half of it under the sofa.

Three sizes are stocked. Twelve colours suit a first set or a spare for the school bag. Twenty-four is the usual choice once a child starts shading rather than filling in. Thirty-six gives the closely spaced shades wanted for drawing skin, sky and foliage properly.

The pencils themselves match the rest of the Coloroid range: triangular barrels painted in their own lead colours, supplied sharpened. Pulling one out of a round tube is a little slower than lifting it from a flat tray, which is the honest trade-off for the protection the tin gives.
