This panda lamp is shaped like a cub fast asleep on its tummy: a rounded white body, black ears, a black band over the shoulders, four small black paws and two pink blushed cheeks. When it is on, the whole body lights up from inside with a warm, yellow-white glow, so it looks like a glowing panda rather than a toy holding a bulb.

It is the tap-and-glow kind of night light that has become a favourite on children's bedside tables. There is no switch to find in the dark and no remote to lose: tapping the panda is how it is worked, which a child can manage from the pillow. It gives a full-brightness setting and a dim setting, both in the same warm white.

There is no plug to keep it tied to a socket. A built-in 1200 mAh battery charges through the USB-C cable in the box in about two hours, then runs for 5 to 7 hours at full brightness or up to 10 hours dimmed, so it can sit on a bedside table, a shelf or the floor beside a mattress.

The 30-minute auto-off timer is the part parents like most. Switch it on at bedtime and it turns itself off half an hour later, once the child is asleep, so a single charge lasts several nights instead of running flat by morning.

The body is silicone, as its box says, so it feels soft and matte in the hand instead of like hard shiny plastic, and there is no glass anywhere. Parents of small babies keep it on dim for night feeds and nappy changes, and older children and teens put panda lamps on their study desks simply because they look sweet.

It comes in a green gift box printed with bamboo leaves and a big panda face, ready for a birthday, an Eid gift or a new baby. The Safencia price of the panda silicone night lamp is Rs. 1,850, with Cash on Delivery across Pakistan, from Lahore and Karachi to Islamabad and Peshawar.
