The Junior is the small passenger set in the Rail King range: a steam engine, a coal tender marked Express and a single black coach lettered Century Express, running on a loop that a child can build without help. The box is marked 10.1986-1 and the engine carries G.M.D FX-06237 on its side.

Small matters here. A three-piece train on a short loop takes up about the space of a bath towel, which means it fits on a table, in a bedroom corner or in the gap between a sofa and a wall — the places a young child actually plays. The longer freight sets in the range want a whole floor.

The engine's lamp lights while it runs and sound plays with it, and the coach windows are picked out in white so the rake still looks like a real passenger train rather than a block on wheels. The tender and coach unhook from the engine for a child who would rather push them by hand.
