This is the largest train we stock, and the measurements are the reason. The supplied track assembles into a figure-eight that the packaging measures at about 216 x 92.5 cm — a layout that crosses itself, so the train passes under your eye twice per lap instead of drifting round a small oval. The supplier lists over 660 cm of track in the box.

Five vehicles run on it: a green and black express locomotive lettered Railroad, its coal tender, two green passenger coaches and a red caboose at the tail. The locomotive alone is 24.2 cm long and a coach 30.5 cm, so the full rake stretches well over a metre — long enough that the tail is still leaving the crossing as the engine reaches it again.

Water in the funnel produces the smoke, the headlamp lights, and the engine sound plays while it runs. The handset drives it rather than just switching it on, which at this size matters: a train this long needs stopping before a curve if a child has left something on the rails.

Power is a 3.7V lithium pack with its USB charging cable, both supplied. No hunting for a fresh set of cells before a birthday, and no repeated spend afterwards — the same argument that made rechargeable RC cars standard, applied to a train set.

It is a floor set and a serious one: the figure-eight wants a cleared room, and the five vehicles need somewhere to live afterwards. For a child who has already loved a small train, this is the step up that keeps the hobby going, and it is the gift a family remembers.
