Most small aircraft are sold in black or grey, and most small aircraft in black or grey get lost against a Pakistani sky within twenty seconds. The S12 is finished in gloss red with yellow and black chevron flashes down the wings, and that choice is the reason a child can still see where it is at the far end of a park. Orientation is the whole game with a small jet, and colour solves it more reliably than any electronic feature.

Each of the four rotors sits under a spoked red cage that bolts over the top of the disc. It is a heavier-looking arrangement than the smooth cut-outs on other jets in this range, and it earns that weight: the cage takes the impact when the aircraft clips a doorframe, so the blades underneath stay straight and keep their pitch.

The body is moulded ABS rather than foam. Foam absorbs a crash and then stays dented; ABS keeps its shape, holds a glossy finish and does not shed crumbs across the floor after a bad landing. It also means the long nose, the twin exhaust nozzles at the tail and the raised spine hold their edges instead of rounding off after a month of use.

Coloured flight lights sit along the centre spine, showing green on one side and blue on the other. On a summer evening they turn the S12 into something worth watching from a rooftop, and more practically they tell the pilot which end is the nose when the aircraft is fifty feet away and getting smaller.
