The grade printed on this box is worth explaining, because it looks like two different things: 2½ = HB. Those are the same hardness written in two systems, the numeric scale used across much of Asia and the letter scale used in Britain, so this is an ordinary HB pencil labelled for both markets.

Barrels come in flat neon colours, bright green, yellow, purple, pink and blue, with the range name and Art #222 printed in white along each one. Against a desk of identical wood-brown pencils they are unmistakable, which is half the reason children hold on to them.

The section is triangular. Three broad flats mean a young hand settles into the correct three-finger hold on its own, and the pencil stays where it is set down instead of rolling off the edge of a school desk mid-sentence.

The box carries two claims of its own, highest quality pencil and non-toxic, printed alongside the piece count. Those are Dux's markings, quoted here as printed. Points come sharpened, so the box is ready to open on the first morning of term.
