A slim navy case that opens on a white lid folding back into three mixing panels, with the pans laid in rows below and a black-handled brush across them. It arrives sealed in a clear sleeve, and the insert under that sleeve does the talking: Giorgione in script on a navy tab, AQUARELLE across the middle, then Artists' transparent water colour repeated in Spanish and French, a navy corner reading 12, 24 or 36 colors, and a white banner along the foot printed Solid water colour.
Transparent is the claim on the insert and it is the one that matters. These pans let the paper lighten the wash rather than covering what is under it, which is the opposite of the opaque school trays lower down our shelf, and it means the drawing beneath has to be right before the paint goes on.
Three sizes, and the rate falls as they widen: Rs. 154.17 a colour at twelve, Rs. 122.92 at twenty-four and Rs. 106.94 at thirty-six. The twelve is a single row of pans, the twenty-four two rows, the thirty-six three, and the folding mixing lid grows with each.

What does solid water colour mean?
The colour is dry in the pan and lifted with a wet brush, rather than squeezed from a tube. The banner along the foot of the insert prints exactly that phrase.
Do I need a separate palette?
No. The white lid folds back into three moulded mixing panels, which is enough surface for ordinary work and is why the case is deeper than a flat tin.
