A sage-green carton with a watercolour of Dutch windmills across it, printed WATER COLOUR above MARIE'S PAINTING COLOURS, the size along the right as 12×12ml, 0.4 US fl.oz, a SINCE 1919 badge and the black horse mark in the corner. Inside, twelve white tubes lie in a moulded tray, each with a coloured band, a Marie's code and the colour's name.
The names are the reason to look at this box rather than a cheaper one. Lemon Yellow, Orange Yellow, Vermilion, Crimson Red, Burnt Sienna, Viridian, Ultramarine, Prussian Blue, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Ivory Black and Chinese White.
