Many Pakistani homes have, or once had, a pair of songbirds in a cage on the veranda, and children are fascinated by them. This toy gives them the same thing without the feeding and cleaning: a white barred birdcage with a hanging hook on top and two small birds sitting together on a perch inside.

Switch it on and the birds chirp and sing, with realistic bird calls and melodies, while the base of the cage lights up from inside. The effect is surprisingly lifelike in a quiet room, and visitors often look twice before they realise the birds are not real.

Each cage holds two birds of different colours, such as an orange bird with a cream bird, or a cream bird with a blue one. The base comes in two colours, sky blue or orange, with a brick pattern printed round it, and the hook on top is a matching colour.

Because it has a hook, it can hang from a shelf bracket, a curtain rail or a hook in the child's room, or simply stand on a table. It makes a gentle bedroom toy and a talking point in a sitting room.

It is battery operated. The cage is made of plastic bars that children can look through but not open, which keeps the little birds in place.

The Safencia price is Rs. 1,250 with Cash on Delivery across Pakistan, including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Tell us whether you want the blue or orange base on WhatsApp and we confirm stock, city and delivery charge before dispatch.
