Description
Most mechanical pencils at this price are moulded in hard shiny plastic. The Graphite 777 uses a soft-touch finish instead, a slightly matt barrel with a little give to it, and the difference is obvious the moment you pick one up: fingers grip without squeezing, which is what stops a hand cramping in a two-hour paper.
The barrel is translucent, so the lead supply inside is visible without unscrewing anything. Running out mid-exam is one of those small disasters that ruins a paper, and being able to glance at the barrel and see what is left removes the guesswork.
A metal clip and a metal-lined tip do the structural work. The clip is sprung properly rather than moulded as part of the body, which means it survives being pushed onto a thick notebook cover repeatedly instead of snapping off in the first month.
