Keep Smiling White Acrylic Gesso is a ready-to-use surface primer formulated to seal, stiffen and prepare raw substrates before applying acrylic, oil, gouache or mixed media paints. It dries to a smooth, flexible matte white finish that provides balanced tooth for brushstrokes and palette knife work.
Applying gesso creates an essential barrier between raw fibres and painting mediums. On unprimed cotton canvas and linen, it prevents oils and binder mediums from sinking into the fabric or causing yellowing over time, while on MDF boards and wood panels, it seals porous grain and prevents uneven absorption.
The formula has a rich, creamy consistency that brushes out easily straight from the wide-mouth jar. For fine detail work, a single coat lightly sanded after drying provides a satin-smooth finish, while two unthinned coats create a textured, high-traction foundation ideal for heavy body impasto painting.
It adheres securely to stretched canvas, canvas boards, wood slices, cardboard, terracotta pottery and watercolour paper. Because it is an acrylic-based emulsion, it dries quickly within 30 to 60 minutes and brushes rinse clean with plain water and soap before the primer cures.
