These are the wide end of the flat range — the sizes you pick up when an area needs covering rather than describing. A size 14 or 16 lays a band of colour broad enough that a background, a sky, or the side of a large shape goes down in a few passes instead of a dozen.

That difference is not about speed. Every stroke leaves a boundary where it stops, and boundaries are what you see as streaks once the paint dries. Fewer strokes means fewer boundaries, which is the whole reason to reach for a wider brush rather than working faster with a narrow one.

The Artist's Keep Smiling line looks different from the standard Keep Smiling brushes: a slim all-white handle with no black tip, a black ferrule with a grey inner, and the name printed in script along the length with the size beside it. If you own both, the handle tells you which is which at a glance in the jar.

Both sizes are the same brush, so the only decision is width. Take the 16 if you are mostly covering ground, the 14 if you want a broad stroke that still fits inside a shape without crossing its border.

It is a single brush rather than a set, which is what most people actually need at this end of the range. Wide flats wear out slower than detail brushes because they are used for fewer, longer strokes — so one at a time, replaced when it goes, is the sensible way to own them.
