A flat brush is the one that makes work look finished. Its square end fills a shape in fewer strokes than a round, and turned onto its narrow side it cuts a straight edge that no round can match — the border of a block of colour, the line where a wall meets a sky, the edge of a letter.

Six of them come on one card, stepping up in width. That range matters more on flats than on any other shape, because a flat can only give you its own width: there is no lifting onto a point to make the stroke thinner. The width you pick up is the width you paint.

Each handle is pearl white with a black ferrule and black tip, printed Keep Smiling with the model code 6129F. The handles are short table length, made for working close on paper or a board rather than at an easel.

The set covers the two jobs a painting needs most after the drawing is done: laying flat colour without brush marks, and squaring off the edges so shapes read cleanly against each other. A round can approximate both and does neither as well.

Care is simple and worth doing. Rinse before the paint sets, press the head flat between your fingers while damp so the square edge stays square, and store the brushes lying flat rather than standing in a jar.
