Description

This is a moulded shell case rather than a fabric pouch. The outside is a matte black EVA dome printed with a yellow front-end loader mid-scoop, blue speed lines behind it and the words Big Working Wheel across the panel. It is the pencil case a seven-year-old picks when diggers, dumpers and cranes are the whole personality.

The shell is what you are paying for. EVA holds its shape under a loaded schoolbag, so pens do not get flattened, a fineliner nib does not get snapped against a textbook, and the case comes out of the bag looking the same shape it went in. A soft pouch cannot do that.

Open the single zip and it lies flat like a small book. The lid half carries a row of elastic loops along the top and a zip mesh pocket underneath, so pens stand in order instead of rattling around loose. The base half is one open tray with a stitched divider strap — that is where the sharpener, eraser, glue stick and a short ruler go.

Loading it properly is what makes it worth the money. Loops hold roughly six or seven slim barrels; put the daily pens there and everything else in the tray, and a child can find one pen in a second rather than tipping the whole case onto a desk mid-class.

Two honest limits. It is a hard case, so it takes up a fixed rectangle in the bag whether it is full or empty — a floppy pouch squeezes into a gap, this one does not. And it opens with one zip, so it is not the case for a child who needs separate compartments for two different subjects.
