The Chamki is the smallest and lightest ball we sell, and it is the one to buy for a small child. At 64mm and around 40g it weighs roughly half what a standard tape ball does, which is exactly why it belongs in the hands of a six-year-old rather than a 100g ball that stings when it hits a shin.

Twelve of them cost Rs. 1,250. That is about Rs. 104 a ball — cheaper than anything else here by a distance. Anyone who has watched children play in a street knows why that number matters: balls go over walls, down drains and onto roofs, and nobody wants to lose a Rs. 400 ball that way.

The look is where the name comes from. Each ball is double-coloured — bright orange panels running against neon green, split by a pale seam. Against a dusty street or a patch of grass, a two-tone ball catches the eye in a way a single-colour one does not, and a spinning one is easier for a child to track.

The rubber is tight-pressure and good quality, the same basic construction as the bigger balls in this range, just scaled down. It works indoors and out, on any surface, which matters when the game moves into the lounge because it is raining.

It is a kids' ball and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If a teenager or an adult is playing a serious tape ball match, a 64mm 40g ball will feel like a toy and will not carry. Buy the CA Gold or the Fine Gold for that. Buy the Chamki for the children.
