A soluble varnish can be dissolved off years later with the dirt it has collected, leaving the paint layer beneath untouched.
The front label names the Acrylic Mediums range and the varnish in five languages, with the 75 ml volume printed at the lower right.
Description
A 75 ml glass bottle of clear varnish from the Daler-Rowney Acrylic Mediums range, brushed onto a finished acrylic painting. The liquid is water-clear in the bottle and the label names it in five languages, ending with the Italian Vernice Liquida Lucida — liquid gloss varnish.
The important word on the label is soluble. A soluble varnish is meant to be taken off again: years later the layer can be dissolved and replaced, taking the dust and smoke that settled on it with it, while the paint underneath is untouched. That is how galleries treat pictures, and it is the difference between a protective layer and a permanent seal you can never get back through.
Gloss does a second job that surprises people the first time. Acrylic dries with an uneven sheen because some pigments sink into the film more than others, so a finished canvas can look patchy under a light even when the painting is right. One even coat of gloss varnish levels that sheen and brings the darks back to the depth they had while they were still wet.
Timing is the mistake worth avoiding. Acrylic is dry to the touch in minutes but the film keeps curing for days, and varnishing over a paint layer that has not finished shrinking can cloud or crack the coat. A week is a sensible wait on a thick canvas, longer if the weather has been humid.
Brush it in one direction with a soft, wide, clean brush, in a thin even pass, and stop rather than going back over a section that has started to set. A second coat can go on once the first is fully dry, and two thin coats always look better than one thick one.
The label carries its own warnings and they are not decoration: it is marked flammable liquid and vapour and an eye irritant, it says not to use or store the bottle near heat, sparks or open flames, and it is to be kept out of reach of children. It also states that the product conforms to ASTM D 4236, and the bottle is marked as made in England.
The Safencia price is Rs. 2,550 for the 75 ml bottle. Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, and stock, your city and delivery charges are confirmed on WhatsApp before dispatch.

FAQs
What does soluble mean on a varnish label?
It means the dried varnish can be dissolved and removed later without disturbing the paint. That lets a dirty or yellowed coat be stripped and replaced years after the painting was finished.
How long should acrylic dry before varnishing?
Longer than it feels. Acrylic is touch-dry in minutes but the film keeps curing for days, so allow about a week on a normal canvas and longer in humid weather or over thick paint.
Will gloss varnish change how the painting looks?
Yes, and usually for the better. It evens out the patchy sheen acrylic dries with and returns depth to dark colours that flattened as they dried.
Can this varnish be used over oil paint?
It is sold in the Acrylic Mediums range, so acrylic is what it is made for. Oil paint needs far longer to cure and is normally finished with a varnish sold for oils.
How is it applied?
With a soft, wide, clean brush in thin passes going one way, without brushing back over a section that has begun to set. Two thin coats give a better film than one heavy one.
Is Soluble Gloss Varnish flammable?
The label marks it as a flammable liquid and vapour and an eye irritant, and says not to use or store it near heat, sparks or open flames. Keep the bottle capped, cool and away from children.
How much will 75 ml cover?
That depends on how absorbent the surface is and how thin the coat goes on, so we do not quote an area. Treat 75 ml as a bottle for small and medium works rather than for a wall-sized canvas.
Can varnish be applied over a painting that is already framed?
Take it out of the frame first. Varnish creeps into a rebate and glues the canvas or board to the frame, and any overspill dries as a visible ridge along the edge.
Can I pay cash on delivery for Soluble Gloss Varnish in Pakistan?
Yes. Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and many other cities.
How fast is delivery in Pakistan?
Orders are confirmed on WhatsApp before dispatch. Delivery usually takes 3-5 working days in major Pakistani cities, depending on courier route and city.
