Description

A 75 ml glass bottle of clear golden liquid, labelled OIL COLOUR at the top with Mediums on the grey band, then ARTISTS' PAINTING MEDIUM and Medium Per Dipingere "Artists". The two lines that tell you what it does are printed straight underneath: Slows drying. Suitable for fine detail.

The first thing to get right is what this bottle is not. It looks almost exactly like the varnish bottle beside it — same moulded glass, same ribbed black cap, same Winsor & Newton band — but a varnish goes on top of a finished painting and a medium goes into wet paint on the palette. The one word that separates them is on the grey band: Mediums here, Varnishes there. Read that band before you pour.

Slowing the drying is the reason most painters buy it, and in this climate it matters more than the label can say. Oil colour skins over faster in a hot room, and a painter who wanted an hour of soft blending finds the passage already tacky and dragging. Mixed into the colour, this medium buys back that working time, which is what makes wet-in-wet blending, soft edges and gradual skin tones possible instead of a fight against the clock.

Suitable for fine detail is the second half of it. Stiff paint straight from the tube will not leave a fine brush cleanly — the line breaks, the tip splays, and a thin branch or an eyelash comes out as a smudge. A little medium loosens the flow without turning the colour to a wash, so the paint travels off the point of the brush and holds its edge.

The one rule to keep is fat over lean. A medium adds oil to the mixture, and oilier layers must sit above leaner ones or the upper film dries first and cracks as the paint below moves. In practice that means little or no medium in the underpainting and more of it in later layers, and it means adding it a few drops at a time rather than pouring it in.

This is our first oil-painting medium; the ox gall and masking fluid already on the site are watercolour helpers, and the two ranges are not interchangeable. Rs. 2,530 for the 75 ml bottle, Cash on Delivery across Pakistan. Keep it capped, away from heat and out of reach of children, and let an adult handle it.

Why this product is worth considering

A Medium, Not a Varnish

The grey band reads Mediums. It is mixed into wet oil colour on the palette, never brushed over a finished painting.

Slows Drying

Printed on the label. In a hot room oil colour skins over quickly, and this is what buys back the blending time.

Suitable for Fine Detail

Also printed on the label. It loosens stiff tube paint so a fine brush lays a clean line instead of breaking up.

Held up to the light the medium is transparent and warm gold rather than milky, and 75 ml e is printed on the label.

FAQs

Is this a varnish?

No. Artists' Painting Medium is mixed into wet oil colour on the palette; a varnish goes over a finished, dry painting. The grey band on this bottle reads Mediums, and a varnish bottle reads Varnishes.

What does slowing drying actually give me?

Working time. Oil colour skins over faster in a hot room, and Artists' Painting Medium keeps the passage open long enough for wet-in-wet blending and soft edges.

How much should I add to the paint?

A few drops at a time, mixed on the palette and tested with a brush. Too much Artists' Painting Medium makes the colour thin and glassy, and it cannot be taken out again once it is in.

What is fat over lean and why does it matter here?

Oilier layers must sit above leaner ones or the top film dries first and cracks. Because Artists' Painting Medium adds oil, use little or none in the underpainting and more in the later layers.

Can I use it with acrylic paint?

No. The bottle is headed OIL COLOUR and belongs with oil painting; acrylic needs an acrylic-range medium instead.

Does it help with fine lines?

Yes, and the label says so. A little Artists' Painting Medium lets stiff tube paint flow off the point of a fine brush cleanly instead of breaking and splaying.

How big is the bottle?

75 ml, printed as 75 ml e on the label. Because it is added by drops rather than poured, a bottle this size goes a long way.

How should it be stored?

Capped tightly and upright, away from heat and out of reach of children. Artists' Painting Medium should be used in a ventilated room and handled by an adult.

Can I pay cash on delivery for Artists' Painting Medium in Pakistan?

Yes. Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and many other cities.

How fast is delivery in Pakistan?

Orders are confirmed on WhatsApp before dispatch. Delivery usually takes 3-5 working days in major Pakistani cities, depending on courier route and city.
