One card, three kinds of tool. The Keepsmiling set is marked 7PCS and the card breaks that down itself: five brushes, one palette knife and one palette. Nothing else is listed on it, and nothing else is promised here — please read the note below about the two foam daubers that appear in some of our photographs.
The five brushes are a working spread rather than five of the same thing. A wide red flat for covering ground, an orange flat about half its width, a fine yellow round for lines and faces, then a green and a blue flat at the small end. Every handle is a different colour, which is the quiet reason sets like this survive in a house with more than one child.
The palette knife is the piece most people do not expect at this price. It is a stiff plastic blade, not a brush, and it is for mixing colour on the palette instead of grinding it into the bristles of a brush you have just cleaned. Once you have mixed with a knife rather than a brush you will not go back, and it is also what scrapes the palette clean afterwards.
The palette is a white plastic flower with a large oval mixing bay in the middle and a ring of small round wells around it. Colour straight from the tube goes in the little wells; the middle is where you make the shade you actually wanted. It rinses under a tap, which is exactly what a paper palette will not do.
Now the arithmetic, because it is the strongest thing about this card. Our transparent acrylic oval palette costs Rs. 450 on its own. This set is also Rs. 450, and the palette is the smallest part of it. Our Keepsmiling palette with twelve brushes is Rs. 1,050 if you want more brushes and no knife; the plain Keep Smiling small oval palette is Rs. 135 if you want a palette and nothing else.
Two foam daubers, a large pink-handled one and a small green-handled one, appear beside the set in three of the photographs on this page. They are not printed on the card and they are not in its 7-piece list, so we are not selling them as part of this set.
