Description
Most craft kits hand a child something already made and ask them to colour it. This one starts a step earlier. Plaster powder is mixed with water in the bowl that comes in the box, poured into the moulds, and left to set. What lifts out an hour or two later is a solid figure the child made, and only then does the painting start. That gap between pouring and painting is the part children remember.
Every box holds the same working kit: moulds in assorted designs, a sachet of plaster powder, a mixing bowl, a stirring rod, six colour paints, a paint brush and printed instructions. There is nothing to buy separately except water and an old sheet of newspaper for the table.
Four designs are available at the same price. Dinosaur gives a brachiosaurus, a stegosaurus, a triceratops, a T-rex and a hatching egg. Unicorn gives unicorns on clouds and rainbows plus a heart plaque. Dessert gives cupcakes with cream swirls and a panda cupcake. Garden is the odd one out and the one many parents pick first: its six designs — ladybird, butterfly, flower, tulip and more — come out as fridge magnets that end up on a real fridge door instead of in a drawer.
The age marking is worth reading before you choose. The Dinosaur, Unicorn and Dessert boxes are marked 6+; the Garden magnet box is marked 5+. Plaster mixing is a supervised job at any of those ages — an adult usually handles the water and the pouring, and the child does the stirring, the demoulding and all of the painting.
It works well as a birthday gift for a child who has run out of things to do indoors, and as a two-session activity: mould on one day, paint on the next. The paints are water-based pots with their own brush, so cleaning up needs nothing more than a tap and a cloth.

How does the Mould & Paint kit actually work?
Plaster powder from the box is mixed with water in the supplied bowl, stirred with the rod, and poured into the moulds. Once it has set, the figures are pushed out and painted with the six colours.

It is included. The printed contents list on the box covers the moulds, plaster powder, mixing bowl, stirring rod, six colour paints, a paint brush and detailed instructions. Only water comes from your tap.
What age is printed on the boxes?
The Garden magnet box is marked 5+, and the Dinosaur, Unicorn and Dessert boxes are marked 6+. Mixing plaster should be supervised by an adult at any of these ages.
How long does the plaster take to set?
No setting time is printed on the box, so we will not invent one. Follow the instruction sheet inside, and plan the painting for later the same day or the next morning.
Can the figures be painted more than once?
The cast figures can be repainted over the top once dry, though the first coat will show through pale colours. Many families cast all the figures at once and paint a couple at a time.
How many figures does one kit make?
No figure count is printed on the Dinosaur, Unicorn or Dessert boxes, so we do not state one. Only the Garden box prints a number, and that number is 6 designs.
