This one is built around its music box. The pink and white dome at the top of the arm holds the mechanism and the speaker, and everything below it - a white crown with four bright pink flowers and the five figures on their strings - turns while the music plays. Stop the music and it is still a set of shapes hanging in a baby's line of sight, which is half of what a mobile is for.

Four fish and a long-beaked bird hang from the crown, moulded in pink, green, blue, yellow and orange. They are cut through with round and oval openings rather than being solid slabs of plastic, so light passes through them as they come round and there is something for a hand to hook into later on, when a baby graduates from watching to grabbing.

There is no light on this mobile, and that is worth knowing before you choose. It plays and it turns; it does not glow. For a room where a baby is being settled after a night feed, a mobile that gives sound and movement without adding another light source to the room is often the easier thing to live with.

The white arm telescopes and ends in a green clamp that grips the rail of a standard cot, so the dome sits above and to the side rather than directly over a baby's face. As with any mobile, it belongs out of reach - fixed high enough that a baby who is starting to push up cannot get a hand to the strings.

It takes three AA cells and they are not supplied. The mechanism does both jobs off the same set, so the music and the turning fade together when the cells go down - a useful early warning rather than a sudden stop.
