This crab is sold as the Pressing Power Little Crab, and the name says how it works: press down on its shell, let go, and it scoots forward across the floor. The box sums it up in four words, press it, move forward. There are no batteries, no switch and nothing to charge.

It is a round, glossy crab with both claws raised, curled little legs at each side and huge brown cartoon eyes over rosy cheeks, with yellow spots on the shell and claws. It measures about 12.2 cm across the claws, 9.7 cm tall and 6.8 cm from front to back, so it fills a toddler's hand without being heavy to carry around.

There are four colours at the same price: red, orange, green and teal. Each order is one crab in the colour you choose, which makes it easy to buy two in different colours for a race between brothers and sisters.

The box names what the play builds: hand-eye coordination, from aiming the press and then following the crab as it runs, and smooth sliding across a tiled or wooden floor. For a two-year-old it is a toy they can work entirely on their own, and the press-and-chase game keeps them moving round the room.

It is a different toy from our electric crawling crab, which runs on batteries with music and lights. This one is simpler and smaller, the child powers it with a press, and it never needs new cells. We suggest it from 2 years.
