Few animals make a small child laugh like a cow, and fewer still walk across the drawing room floor. This toy cow does: switch it on, set it down and it walks forward on its own four legs, with light and sound effects as it goes.

It looks the part of a real dairy cow. The body is white with black patches, the legs are jointed at the hips with visible screw caps where they swing, and the details are all there: an udder underneath, a tail, black ears and a small red knob on its chest. Children recognise it straight away from picture books, Eid visits to the mandi and village trips.

The box, a bright green carton titled COWS walking electric toys, shows icons for sound and light on its front, and that is what the toy adds to the walking. It makes a lively first electric toy for a toddler who has outgrown push toys.

It runs on batteries, which are not included in the box, so pick up cells before it arrives and it can start walking the same day. Fit them in, switch it on and let it go on a smooth floor; tiles and marble work best, and thick carpet slows small legs down.

The box is marked for ages 3 and up. A walking cow is a lovely way to talk about farm animals, practise words like moo, milk and grass, and get a reluctant toddler to follow it across the room. It also makes a good Eid or birthday gift because it arrives in its own window box.

If you are looking for our cow-shaped piano instead, that is a separate musical keyboard; this one walks. Order the walking cow toy at Rs. 1,250 with Cash on Delivery anywhere in Pakistan, from Karachi and Lahore to Islamabad, Multan and Sargodha; stock, city and the delivery charge are confirmed on WhatsApp before dispatch.
