Description

A traditional East Asian calligraphy brush, not a Western paint brush — the shape and construction are different on purpose. The head tapers to a fine point when wet, held by a black ferrule on a pale, lacquered bamboo-look handle. Characters are printed down the barrel in the traditional style, and a braided loop hangs from the end so the brush can be stored point-down.

This pointed round shape is what lets one brush vary a stroke from a hairline to a wide sweep depending on pressure and angle, which is the basis of Chinese and Japanese brush calligraphy and ink painting. It is a different skill and a different tool from a Western dip pen or a steel nib, which vary a line by pressure on a rigid point rather than by the whole brush head flexing.

It is sold as a single brush, one size. No bristle material, handle length or head size in millimetres is printed on it in our photographs, so we do not quote a spec beyond what is visible.

Used with ink or diluted ink washes on absorbent paper — practice paper, rice paper or a similar surface — rather than with acrylic or oil paint, which this brush shape and bristle type is not built for.

Rs. 155 for the brush. Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, and stock and delivery charges are confirmed on WhatsApp before dispatch.

FAQs

Is this a paint brush or a calligraphy brush?

A calligraphy brush. The pointed round shape, the black ferrule and the bamboo-look handle are built for East Asian brush calligraphy and ink work, not for acrylic or oil paint the way a Western paint brush is.

What is the hanging loop for?

It lets the brush hang point-down when not in use, the traditional way to store a calligraphy brush so the tip keeps its shape.

Can I use it with acrylic or oil paint?

It is built for ink and ink washes on absorbent paper, not for acrylic or oil paint. We have not tested it against those and do not recommend it.

What size is the brush?

No handle length or head size is printed on it in our photographs, so we do not quote a measurement. It is sold as one brush, one size.

How is it different from a dip pen or a steel nib?

A calligraphy brush varies a stroke by the whole bristle head flexing under pressure and angle, tapering to a fine point when wet. A steel dip-pen nib varies a line at a single rigid point instead.

What surface should I use it on?

Absorbent paper — practice paper, rice paper or a similar surface — is what this brush and ink combination is made for.

Does it come with ink or paper?

No, the brush only. Ink, ink stones and practice paper are not included and are sold separately if you need them.

Can I pay cash on delivery for Chinese Calligraphy Brush in Pakistan?

Yes. Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and many other cities.

How fast is delivery in Pakistan?

Orders are confirmed on WhatsApp before dispatch. Delivery usually takes 3-5 working days in major Pakistani cities.
