This is jute as cloth rather than as cord — a coarse, loosely woven fabric with the open basket-weave look of hessian, dyed a solid colour and folded flat. Our photographs show it in blue, green and black; the weave is even and the loose threads at the cut edge are visible in close-up, which is normal for a natural fibre cut from a wider roll rather than hemmed.

The open weave is what makes it useful. Held up to light it lets light through in a grid, which is exactly the texture a wall hanging or a rustic table runner wants and a tightly woven cotton cannot give. The same looseness means it frays at a cut edge faster than cotton, so a raw edge left untreated will shed threads over time — worth knowing before it goes into a project that gets handled.

It is sold as fabric, not as a finished item: no hem, no backing, no fixings. What it becomes is up to the project — a backing panel behind a photo frame, a table runner cut to length, wrapping for a gift box, or a base layer under embroidery and beadwork where the coarse weave gives thread something to grip.

Jute fabric takes glue and stitching differently to cotton. A hot-glue bead tacks it well because the open weave gives the glue somewhere to key into, but a fine sewing needle can split a thread rather than pass between two — a slightly heavier needle or a seam that does not need to be invisible both work better here.
