Six large Marie's tubes, each printed NO.815B and 2.68 fl.oz / 75 ml on the label, bundled as a basic-colours starter palette. As a palette the selection is sound. A cool blue, a green, a warm red, a cool yellow, plus black and white will mix most of what a beginner needs, and the 75 ml tube is the size that matters — white is always the first colour to run out, and a large tube of it survives an underpainting where a 12 ml tube would not.

There is one thing you should know before you order, because we would rather tell you than have you work it out afterwards. We also sell these exact tubes individually. Marie's 75 ml acrylic singles are Rs. 399 each, and all six of the colours in this bundle are standard Rs. 399 shades. Six of them bought separately comes to Rs. 2,394. This set is Rs. 2,550. In other words the bundle costs Rs. 156 more than buying the same six tubes one at a time.

So why buy the set? Convenience, mostly — one line on an order rather than six, and a palette already chosen for you if you do not yet know which six colours you want. If you do know, or if you only need four of them, order the singles and keep the Rs. 156. We are not going to pretend a bundle is a discount when our own price list says otherwise.

On volume the set is good value regardless of which way you buy it. Six 75 ml tubes is 450 ml of paint, so Rs. 2,550 works out to Rs. 5.67 a millilitre — among the cheapest acrylic per millilitre on our shelf, below our Marie's 18-colour box at Rs. 6.13 and below every Daler-Rowney acrylic we stock. Buying the singles brings that to Rs. 5.32.
