Description
Pentel Poster Color is the jar art students in Pakistan are told to buy when the work has to hold up under judging. It is the genuine article — the label carries the Pentel wordmark, the katakana ポスターカラー, the range's large U mark, and the shade name with its catalogue number under it. The jars are glass with plastic screw caps, and most of the ones we photographed print MADE IN TAIWAN while a few print MADE IN JAPAN.
The single most useful thing we can tell you about this product is that the price is not one number. A jar of Prussian Blue is Rs. 445. Most shades — black, brown, the greens, the ordinary blues and yellows — are Rs. 675. Four of them, including White and the fluorescent red, are Rs. 750. And Gold is Rs. 1,200, nearly three times the cheapest jar in the same range and the same size. Nobody puts that on a shelf label, and a student budgeting for six jars needs to know it before choosing which six.

Poster colour behaves nothing like watercolour. It dries flat and fully opaque, so a light shade covers a dark one instead of disappearing into it, and a large area stays even rather than blotchy.
