This is the smallest and cheapest wicket set we sell, and it exists for one reason: little children. A four or five year old does not need a 30 inch stump. They need something their own size that falls over satisfyingly when they hit it, and they need it to cost Rs. 400 rather than Rs. 2,100, because it is going to live in the garden and be treated accordingly.

It is the small version of the same Boom set, in the same white hard plastic, strong and steady rather than bendy. The difference in the finish is easy to spot: on this one the BOOM name is embossed into the plastic in raised white letters rather than printed on a black label. It is a cleaner, plainer look.

The bails come with it, which matters more for young children than adults might think. Bails are what turn a hit into a wicket and an argument into a result, and a set without them is just three sticks in the ground.

The base can be weighed down to keep the set standing. Boom's own description mentions both soil and water depending on which part you read, so check what works with the base when it arrives — either way the principle is the same: weigh it down to play, empty it to carry.

It works indoors or out and on any surface, which is the real advantage of a small set. A 30 inch wicket in a hallway is a nuisance; this one is not. It goes on a lawn, a roof terrace, a school hall or a driveway and packs away in seconds. It arrives wrapped in plastic with the pieces together.
