Fluid acrylic is ordinary acrylic's thinner sibling: the same pigment load, a much looser body, and it comes in a squeeze bottle with a pointed nozzle rather than a tube. That changes what you can do with it. It pours and drips without a medium, it flows off a brush for long unbroken lines, and it goes through an airbrush or a fine detail brush where a heavy-body paint would drag. The nozzle bottles in our photographs are the tell — you dispense a bead of colour, not a squeeze onto a palette.

The box is labelled Acrylic Introduction Set in five languages, and prints its own arithmetic: 10 x 29.5ml, 1 US fl oz, Total 295ml, 10 US fl oz. The ten colours are named along the front with their System 3 codes — Titanium White 009, Lemon Yellow 651, Cadmium Red Hue 503, Process Magenta 412, Ultramarine 123, Coeruleum Blue Hue 112, Yellow Ochre 663, Phthalo Green 361, Burnt Sienna 221 and Mars Black 036. Like the rest of System 3, each carries an opacity symbol and a lightfastness rating.

That ten-colour selection is a genuine mixing palette rather than an assortment: two yellows, a red, a magenta, two blues, a green, two earths and black and white. Ten bottles chosen that way will reach far more colours than ten pre-mixed shades would, which is what an introduction set ought to do.

The price is the part to think about. At Rs. 8,825 for a printed 295 ml, this is Rs. 882.50 a bottle and Rs. 29.92 a millilitre — the highest price per millilitre of any acrylic we stock. It is called an introduction set, but it is not an introductory price. Our Daler-Rowney System 3 tubes in the same brand and grade are Rs. 23.73 a millilitre, and our Daler-Rowney Simply 6-pack in 75 ml tubes is Rs. 12.89.

So it earns its money only if you specifically want fluid consistency in artists' grade.
