The interesting thing about this box is that it holds two different kinds of paint, and the name only half tells you. Reading the tray in our photographs, the six tubes are Neon Green, Glow Green, Neon Pink, Neon Red, Neon Orange and Neon Yellow. Five of those are fluorescent — intensely bright in daylight, and spectacular under a black light, but dark the moment the UV lamp goes off. The sixth, Glow Green, is the phosphorescent one: it charges under light and glows on its own in an unlit room.

That distinction is the reason to buy this box rather than either effect alone, and also the reason to check what you actually need first. If you want a bedroom ceiling that still shines after lights-out, only one of these six tubes does that job. If you want neon for a party, an event backdrop or poster work, five do.

The tubes are the standard Simply 12 ml size, each printed with its name in four languages — Vert Néon, Neon Grün, Verde Neón under Neon Green, and so on — and with a Daler-Rowney colour code and lightfastness rating. The neon codes read 538 Neon Pink, 544 Neon Red, 653 Neon Orange and 681 Neon Yellow, and the fluorescent tubes carry a single lightfastness star. That single star is worth taking seriously: neon pigment fades, and Daler-Rowney says so on its own label rather than hiding it.

Now the price, plainly. Six tubes of 12 ml is 72 ml of paint, so Rs. 3,550 works out to Rs. 591.67 a tube and Rs. 49.31 a millilitre. That is the most expensive acrylic on our entire shelf — more than three times our Daler-Rowney Simply 75 ml pack at Rs. 12.89, and nearly ten times our Mont Marte Signature 36 ml set of 48 at Rs. 5.27. Speciality pigment in a small tube is always the worst value per millilitre, and here the multiple is extreme.

So buy it for what it is: a sampler of two effects in one box, for someone who wants to try both without committing to a large tube of either.
