Six brushes, one shape, six widths — sizes 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12, printed on the handles and the same in every photograph of the card. That is an unusually complete ladder for the money, and it is what makes this a set rather than an assortment.

The shape is the filbert: an oval head with no square corners. It matters because of what happens at the end of a stroke. A square brush stops with two visible corner marks that then have to be blended out; an oval one simply fades, so a leaf, a petal or a curve of cloth can be painted in one movement instead of two.

Buying the widths as a ladder rather than one at a time changes how a painting is worked. The 10 and 12 block in a background, the 6 and 8 carry most of the middle work, and the 2 and 4 shape the edges — without ever swapping to a different head that behaves differently on the paper.

Handles are pearl white with black ferrules and a black tip at the end, printed Keep Smiling. They are short table length, meant for working close over a desk or a school table rather than standing back at an easel. The card states the brushes suit water and oil colour paints.

There is one thing this set is not: a detail kit. The smallest head here is a size 2 filbert, which is fine for small shapes but will not draw a hair or a signature. A liner or a fine round is the brush that does that, and it is worth owning alongside rather than instead.
