Description

A big brush with a rounded head. The deep red synthetic filament is packed into a flattened black ferrule and then cut to a dome, so the working edge is a smooth arc from one side to the other with no corner anywhere on it. That single detail is what a filbert is, and it is why this brush behaves nothing like the flat of the same size.

Corners are what a flat leaves behind. Every stroke from a square-ended brush ends in two hard points, and on a face, a petal, a shoulder or a cloud those points have to be blended away afterwards or the shape looks cut out with scissors. A filbert has no corners to leave, so its stroke fades at both sides and one pass sits into the next without a seam.

That makes it the brush for anything organic. Portrait and figure painters live on filberts because skin, hair and cloth have no straight edges in them; landscape painters reach for one for foliage, cloud and hillside. Turned on its tip the dome gives a tapered mark for a petal or a leaf, and pressed flat it covers as broadly as any flat brush of the same number.

Doing that at XL sizes is the point of this range. A size 40 is already larger than most people's biggest brush and a 70 is a wall of filament, so a whole sky can be blended, or a full-length figure blocked in, without ever laying down a hard edge that has to be softened later.

The one habit that kills a filbert is standing it in a water jar. The dome is the whole brush, and a few hours resting on its own weight bends it permanently into a shape no washing brings back. Wash right down to the base of the ferrule, reshape the dome with your fingers while it is damp, and dry it lying flat or hanging head-down.

Between this and the Graduate XL flat on the same site, the choice is about edges rather than price. A flat is for cutting a straight line, priming and anything with a boundary; a filbert is for everything that must not have one. Most people who paint seriously end up owning both in the same size.

The Safencia price starts at Rs. 3,975 for size 40, with size 50 at Rs. 4,415, size 60 at Rs. 6,950 and size 70 at Rs. 7,800. Tell us the size you want when you order. Why this product is worth considering

Domed Head, No Corners

The filament is cut to a smooth arc across the whole width, so a stroke fades at both sides instead of ending in two hard points.

Blends Without a Seam

One pass sits into the next with nothing to soften afterwards, which is why filberts carry skin, hair, cloth, cloud and foliage.

Tip, Side or Flat

On its tip the dome draws a tapered petal or leaf; pressed down it covers as broadly as a flat of the same number.

Four XL Sizes

40, 50, 60 and 70 — large enough to blend a whole sky or block in a full figure without ever laying a hard edge.

Springy Synthetic Filament

Returns to the dome after a heavily loaded stroke where a natural head this wide would flop, and survives proper washing.

Long White Handle

A long lacquered handle keeps the hand back from the surface, which is how a large canvas is judged while it is being painted.

FAQs

What is a filbert brush?

A flat brush whose filament is cut to a dome instead of a square edge. The Graduate XL Filbert Brush therefore has no corners, so a stroke feathers away at both sides rather than stopping at two hard points.

How is a filbert different from a flat?

Edges. A flat cuts a straight line and leaves two corner marks at the end of every stroke; the Graduate XL Filbert Brush leaves none, so passes blend into one another with nothing to soften afterwards.

What sizes are stocked?

Four: 40, 50, 60 and 70. Each Graduate XL Filbert Brush size is a real step up in width, and the price rises with it — Rs. 3,975, Rs. 4,415, Rs. 6,950 and Rs. 7,800.

What is a large filbert actually used for?

Anything organic and large. A Graduate XL Filbert Brush blends skies, foliage and hillsides, and blocks in figures, skin and cloth where a hard edge would look cut out.

Can it draw a fine mark as well as cover?

Yes, on its tip. Standing the Graduate XL Filbert Brush on the point of its dome gives a tapered mark for a petal or a leaf; pressed down flat it covers as broadly as any brush of that number.

Which paints does it suit?

Acrylic and oil in particular. The synthetic filament in a Graduate XL Filbert Brush holds a heavy load and springs back to shape rather than flopping the way a large natural head does.

How should a filbert be washed and stored?

Wash to the base of the ferrule, reshape the dome with your fingers while damp, then dry it flat or head-down. Never stand a Graduate XL Filbert Brush in a jar — a few hours on its own weight bends the dome permanently.

Should I buy the filbert or the flat?

The flat for straight edges, priming and anything with a boundary; the Graduate XL Filbert Brush for everything that must not have one. Serious painters usually end up with both in the same size.

Can I pay cash on delivery for Graduate XL Filbert Brush in Pakistan?

Yes. Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and many other cities.

How fast is delivery in Pakistan?

Tell us which of the four sizes you want when you order. Orders are confirmed on WhatsApp before dispatch, and delivery usually takes 3-5 working days in major Pakistani cities.
