Description
An oblique holder puts the nib out to one side and turns it, so a right hand can meet the steep slant of Copperplate without rolling the wrist over. This is that holder with the nibs already in the box: a black tapered barrel, a flange at the head, and five pointed steel nibs to work through.
Buying them together is the point. Our bare oblique holder is Rs. 75 and comes with an empty flange, which is fine if you already keep nibs in a drawer. Starting from nothing, five nibs bought loose would cost more than the difference, and you would still be guessing which shape suits your hand. Here you get a spread to try.
The nibs are the pointed, flexible kind rather than broad-edge — they widen under pressure on a downstroke and spring back thin on the way up. That is the mechanism behind Copperplate, Spencerian and the modern scripts people learn from the internet. It is not the mechanism behind Urdu Nastaliq, which needs a cut edge; for that, a bamboo qalam is the right tool.

Ink is not included. Any bottled calligraphy or fountain-pen ink works. Dip to the base of the nib's shoulder, touch the surplus off, and wipe the nib dry the moment you stop writing — that habit alone doubles how long a nib lasts.

Copperplate and Spencerian sit on a steep slant. The angled flange carries the nib out to the side and rotates it onto that slant, so a right-handed writer keeps a natural wrist. A straight holder forces the hand to turn instead, which tires quickly.
Does the set include ink?
No. It is a dip pen, so you supply a bottle of calligraphy or fountain-pen ink. One bottle lasts a long time because each dip carries only a small load onto the nib.
How long does a nib last?
It depends far more on care than on writing. Ink left to dry in the slit corrodes the steel, and a nib dropped on its point is finished. Wipe each nib dry when you stop and a single one will see you through a great deal of practice.
