Silicone oil does one job and it is a visual one. Added by the drop into a pouring mix, it refuses to blend with the acrylic around it and pushes the colour aside as the pour settles, which opens the round, ringed cells that fluid-art pieces are recognised by. Our own photograph shows the result — a poured panel covered in open cells, with two clear beads of the oil sitting beside it.

It is worth saying plainly that this is optional. Our Acrylic Pouring Medium page says the same thing and we are not going to contradict it here: a pour works perfectly well without silicone oil, and plenty of finished fluid art has no cells in it at all. Buy this bottle because you want cells, not because you think a pour needs it.

The bottle is a 60 mL squeeze bottle with a long tapered precision nozzle, sold in a hanging blister pack. That nozzle is the point of the packaging: silicone is measured in drops, not splashes, and a wide-mouthed bottle would make the amount impossible to control. The label sits in the same dark fluid-art artwork family as our pouring medium, printing Silicone Oil, Premium, then Huile de Silicone and Aceite de Silicona, with Transparent | Transparente and the volume as 60mL (2.03 US fl.oz).

At Rs. 925 for 60 mL this is Rs. 15.42 per millilitre, which sounds steep until you count how it is used. Two or three drops into a mixing cup is normal, so a bottle of this size outlasts a great many pours — far longer than the pouring medium it goes into, which is consumed by the hundred millilitres.

One practical note that saves a finished piece: silicone leaves a residue on the dried surface, and most pour artists wash the panel before varnishing so the varnish has something to grip. Plan for that step rather than discovering it after a varnish coat refuses to sit flat.
