This is the BLUE box. Mungyo sells soft pastels in two ranges, and the blue one holds full-size sticks while the yellow one holds half-length minis — our Mungyo Half Soft Pastels page covers those. Neither box says half or full in English on the front, so if you have been handed a shelf photograph and told to order, the box colour is the thing to check.

Before you choose a size, look hard at the middle of this price list, because there is an anomaly in it worth real money. The sets are 12 at Rs. 1,400, 24 at Rs. 2,850, 36 at Rs. 2,900 and 48 at Rs. 3,850. Going from 24 sticks to 36 costs Rs. 50. Fifty rupees for twelve more full-size pastels. That drops the price per stick from Rs. 118.75 in the 24-set to Rs. 80.56 in the 36 — the 24 is the worst buy on our entire pastel shelf, and almost nobody ordering it knows that.

The 48 at Rs. 80.21 a stick is fractionally better again, so the sensible pattern is: buy the 12 to try the range, then jump straight to the 36 or the 48. There is no reason to own the 24.

The boxes are printed MUNGYO, Soft Pastel, For Artists and Pastels tendres pour artistes, with the colour count flashed on the corner and codes MPV-12, MPV-24, MPV-36 or MPV-48. The bullet list reads Finest pigment, Very Soft touch, Shade off easily and Brilliant colors, repeated in French, and the box carries a line reading The real size of each stick beside a size diagram — which is how the maker distinguishes this range from the mini one. CE and AP marks appear on the front.

Full-size sticks earn their place when you are covering ground. A larger sheet, broad side-strokes, or a piece where a single colour has to lay down a whole sky is where a half stick runs out and a full one does not. For everything else, the yellow-box minis at roughly half the price per colour are the better student purchase, and we would rather say so than sell up.
