The width is the whole argument for this pen. It is printed in millimetres on the barrel and again on the black cap end, which sounds like a small thing until you are working to a drawing convention. Architecture, engineering and design courses specify line weights in millimetres — a 0.2 for hidden detail, a 0.5 for the main outline — and a pen whose barrel says 0.5 is answering that instruction directly. Drawing pens that use house codes instead leave you translating.

Marking the width on the cap end matters more than it looks. Fineliners live nib-down in a jar or flat in a case, and if you have four of them the only part you can see is the end of the cap. This range prints the number exactly there, so you pull the right pen out first time instead of testing three on the corner of the page.

The ribbed grip section is moulded into the barrel rather than added as a rubber sleeve. Nothing to peel, slip or go sticky in a hot bag, which is a genuine consideration for a pen that lives in a college satchel through a Lahore summer.

One weight is not enough for a drawing, which is why these are sold one at a time. Two pens — one fine, one heavier — will carry almost any technical or ink drawing, and you can add a third when you know which end of the range you keep running out of.
