Ordinary metallic paint has a sheen. This does something else: the colour itself changes depending on where you stand. The painted spheres in our photographs are the clearest demonstration — one reads gold from one side and green from another, another shifts teal to blue, a third moves purple to magenta. It is the same effect as a car's pearlescent paint, in a 59 ml craft bottle.

The brand is FolkArt, made by PLAID, and every label reads COLOR SHIFT with GLOSS METALLIC ACRYLIC PAINT beneath and the French PEINTURE ACRYLIQUE METALLIQUE LUSTREE under that. The three colours legible in the owner's photographs are 5208 Pink Flash, 5193 Blue Violet Flash and 5250 Plum Flash, each named in English and French — Rose Brillant, Bleu Violet Brillant and Prune Brillante.

One thing to be clear about before ordering. Our photographs show two bottle sizes: the 2 fl oz 59 ml bottle, and a larger 4 fl oz 118 ml bottle of Blue Violet Flash. The price on this page, Rs. 1,800, is for the **59 ml** size. If you want the 118 ml bottle, ask us on WhatsApp before ordering and we will price it separately rather than have the larger bottle arrive at the smaller bottle's price, or the reverse.

At Rs. 1,800 for 59 ml this is Rs. 30.51 a millilitre, which makes it one of the most expensive paints on our shelf — dearer than our FolkArt Glow in the Dark at Rs. 25.42 and than Daler-Rowney System 3 at Rs. 23.73. Colour-shift pigment is a genuinely different material from ordinary mica, and the price reflects that. Nobody should be blocking in a background with this.

Use it where the effect can be seen from more than one angle: raised lettering, ornaments and baubles, model and prop detail, resin pieces, phone cases, painted furniture edges and anything that will be picked up and turned over. It reads strongest over a dark or black ground, where there is no competing lightness to wash the shift out — the opposite of how our fluorescent paints behave.
