Acrylic pouring is easy to start and easy to ruin, and the usual way people ruin it is the mixing. Get the paint-to-medium ratio wrong and the pour either sits there like porridge or runs off the board as coloured water. Mont Marte's answer is to sell it pre-mixed: choose a colourway, shake, pour. The pack says so on the back — pre-mixed and ready to pour, four colours, smooth flow with stunning results, and simply pour them onto a canvas or board.

Each set is four bottles of 60 mL, printed 2.0 US fl.oz, with white flip caps that open one-handed while your other hand holds the cup. The five colourways here are all pictured on this page with a poured result beside them: Rainforest in coral, pale blue, green and deep navy; Cosmic in magenta, gold, black and purple; Symphony in teal, orange, copper and blue; Ethereal in lilac, blue, mint and purple; and Flamingo in pink, teal, gold and coral. Each four is chosen to work together, which is the second thing beginners get wrong.

There is a price detail our own list makes plain. Rainforest, Cosmic, Symphony and Ethereal are Rs. 2,000 each, which for 240 ml works out to Rs. 8.33 a millilitre. Flamingo is Rs. 2,625 — Rs. 625 more, or 31%, for exactly the same four bottles of the same size. If you have no strong preference between the palettes, four of the five cost the same and one does not.

Cheaper still on our shelf is the Celestial colourway at Rs. 1,900, or Rs. 7.92 a millilitre — black, white, gold and bronze. And it is worth comparing against mixing your own: our Mont Marte Premium Acrylic Pouring Medium 240 mL is Rs. 1,250, which is Rs. 5.21 a millilitre for the medium alone, before a drop of colour goes in. Pre-mixed is not the expensive option people assume it is.

Three things the pack tells you that will save a first attempt. Add extra silicone oil if you want cells rather than plain ribbons. Work with good ventilation. And expect the paint to look separated in the bottle — the pack warns that separation may occur because of the pre-mixing, and says to shake well every time. A watery top layer is the product behaving normally, not a fault.
