The pen is a black oblique holder — the nib sits out to one side on an angled flange rather than in line with the barrel. That geometry exists for Copperplate and the modern scripts that follow it, which are written on a steep slant: the flange turns the nib onto that slant so a right hand does not have to roll the wrist over to reach it.
