Light Moulding Paste is for making a painting stand up off its surface. Where a gel medium thickens paint, this builds actual relief: swept ridges, sculpted swirls, raised shapes that catch light across the canvas. Our photographs show it worked onto a board into peaks and curls that stand proud and stay standing — that is the entire test of a moulding paste, and this one passes it in the owner's own images.

The word light in the name is doing real work. A traditional moulding paste is heavy, and a thick application of it adds serious weight to a stretched canvas and can pull or sag it over time. A lightweight formulation lets you build the same relief without loading the surface, which is why it is the one to choose for deep texture on canvas rather than on rigid board.

The jar is white with the Mont Marte Premium livery: a blue Light Moulding Paste title over a grey band with a blue paint swipe, then Pâte de Moulage Légère and Pasta Ligera de Moldeo, and the volume printed as 250ml, 8.5 US fl oz. It is a wide screw-lid jar, which is right for a material you scoop with a knife rather than pour.

It is the second dearest bottle or jar on our mediums shelf. Rs. 2,095 for 250 ml is Rs. 8.38 per millilitre, against Rs. 6.60 for our Crackle Paste in the same size jar. The two are often shortlisted together and they do opposite things: this one builds a surface that holds together, while crackle paste is bought precisely because the surface splits as it dries. If you want relief, this is the jar; if you want a cracked antique surface, the coral-labelled one is cheaper and correct.

It suits acrylic painters and mixed-media artists from about 12 years up. Apply with a palette knife, let it dry hard, then paint over it — moulding paste is a ground you build, not a colour.
