Matt is bought for one reason above all others — glare. Hang a glossy canvas on a wall under a ceiling tube light and the light source is reflected straight back at whoever is standing in front of it, so half the picture disappears into a white smear and the viewer has to move sideways to see it. A matt film scatters that reflection instead of mirroring it, and the painting reads from anywhere in the room. The same trick is why work photographed for Instagram or a portfolio is usually varnished matt: a gloss surface throws the phone, the window and the photographer into the frame.
There is an honest trade-off and it is worth knowing before you spray. The matting agent that scatters light also veils the surface very slightly, so the deepest darks sit a shade flatter than they would under gloss. Painters who want both often varnish gloss first for depth and matt over it for the glare, but if you only spray once, choose by where the picture will hang rather than by how it looks flat on the table.
Removable matters as much here as on any varnish. Dust and cooking smoke settle into a matt surface just as they do a glossy one, and because this film can be taken off again the dirt comes away with it and the paint underneath is never scrubbed.

The 400 ml can costs exactly the same as the gloss can in this range, so the finish is a free choice, not a paid upgrade.
Wait for the paint. Acrylic is ready within days, but oil stays soft under its skin for months and the usual advice is around six months before varnishing. Spray outdoors or at an open window, keep the can away from heat and out of reach of children, and let an adult do the spraying.
